This site is dedicated to the memory of Joshua James.

Our Little Man - Joshua James Our first born arrived on Friday 26th March 2010 at 00:49. He was 14 weeks early, so incredibly small. He weighed in at 640g/1lb 7oz. When we saw him for the first time in the incubator, it shocked us to see how small he actually was. We had lots of ups and downs during the time that Joshua James was being cared for in the neonatal unit. The doctors who cared for him were brilliant and had warned us of the rollercoaster ride that we would have. We had Joshua baptised on Saturday 27th as Joshua was very poorly in the morning and we were told that he might not make it. However Joshua perked up and his oxygen level was brought down. The rest of Saturday, Joshua continued to do well. This continued into Sunday. All day he was very well and when my husband left to go home, I went to go and say goodnight to Joshua before I went to sleep. However when I got to the unit, Joshua was being looked at by the doctors as his condition had deteriorated. Chris, my husband, had only been at home for ten minutes before he received a telephone call asking him to come back to the hospital. We spent a frantic couple of hours hoping and praying that he would improve. Just after midnight, we were relieved to say his condition had stabilised so we went to bed. When we woke at 6am, we were also relieved to find out that Joshua had continued to be stable throughout the night. The monday was again a good day as he had continued to be stable throughout, with his oxygen levels being relatively low. Come 17:00 though, Joshua had deteriorated again, this time having had a bleed on the brain as well as everything else that he had to contend with. The doctor informed us that the next hour was critical, If Joshua didn't improve then there would be nothing more that they could do for him. After about an hour, we had to make the hardest decision of letting Joshua go. We were able to have a hold before washing and dressing him. Then he was brought to us where he died in my arms at 22:30 on Monday 29th March. Our son, Joshua James fought for nearly four days but in the end it was too much for his little body to cope with. We are very grateful for those four days that we had to spend with him as they provided us with lots of memories which we will always treasure.
